What Do You Need To Set Up?
Some utilities need weeks of notice, others just a quick account. Here's what to arrange at your new home — and when.
Broadband
ConnectivityBroadband has the longest lead time of any move-in utility — book it early to avoid arriving with no internet.
Arrange broadband 3–4 weeks before move day. Check availability at the new address first, then book the transfer or new install so activation lines up with your move-in date.

Energy
EnergyTake meter readings on move day and open your account quickly so you don't pay for someone else's usage.
Notify your old supplier before you leave, and take meter readings at both properties on move day. Contact the new property's supplier within the first few days to open your account.

Water
WaterYou can't choose your water supplier — but you do need to open an account and submit a reading.
Set up water around your move date. Find your regional supplier, open an account online, and submit a meter reading if the property has one. There's no lead time to worry about.

Home Insurance
InsuranceCover needs to be active from the moment you're responsible for the new home — and during the move itself.
Arrange cover to start from the day you're responsible for the property — exchange of contracts if buying, move-in day if renting. Sort it in the weeks before, not after.
